Littorral Road
Subject
Architecture
Project type
This is a personal project.
Location
La Reunion, France
This series was captured between January 5–6, 2025, along the New Coastal Road in Saint-Denis, La Réunion Island. It explores the convergence of human engineering and the island’s dramatic natural landscape.
The New Coastal Road was constructed to replace an older route, addressing critical safety concerns caused by frequent rockslides. Spanning 12.3 kilometers, it features a multi-lane viaduct that stretches over 5 kilometers and is designed to withstand extreme weather while preserving marine biodiversity.
My goal was to capture how this road integrates with its landscape, highlighting the scale and tension between human creation and nature’s reign. Photographs were taken from various viewpoints: the now-closed old road and the viaduct itself. Shot in monochrome with a 16:9 aspect ratio, the series emphasizes horizontal lines and the interplay between engineering and nature.
